Esta serie de fotos yuxtapone im\u00e1genes de mi infancia en Venezuela con los entornos en los que he vivido en los Estados Unidos. Cuando cre\u00e9 esta serie estaba pasando por un proceso inmigratorio que no me permit\u00eda regresar a mi pa\u00eds de origen y por ende de regresar a los lugares en los que crec\u00ed para recordar momentos de mi infancia. Por esta raz\u00f3n quize contrastar los lugares en los que crec\u00ed con los lugares donde he vivido.<\/p>

Este proyecto muestra directamente el proceso de aculturaci\u00f3n, describiendo espec\u00edficamente c\u00f3mo los inmigrantes deben tratar de unir sus recuerdos del pasado con un entorno nuevo y completamente diferente.<\/p>

La imagen al frente muestra a mi familia cuando yo era ni\u00f1a. Estas dos fotos sobrepuestas fueron tomadas en parques donde iba con mi familia a menudo.<\/p>

Sorprendentemente, el fondo en estas dos fotograf\u00edas es tan similar que parece que hubieran sido tomadas en el mismo lugar. Hay lugares donde vivo ahora que definitivamente me recuerdan a lugares a los que fu\u00ed en mi juventud y este es un ejemplo de esos lugares.<\/span><\/p>

A trav\u00e9s de esta composici\u00f3n, quer\u00eda mostrar el sentimiento de querer ver a un amigo otra vez. Especialmente en un lugar tan parecido a donde hemos estado antes. Es muy com\u00fan pensar en los viejos tiempos con amigos y seres queridos y querer volver a vivir esos momentos de nuevo.<\/span>

Esta imagen contrasta las calles de Caracas en momentos de protesta con una de las calles mas tranquilas de Washington, DC. Cabe se\u00f1alar que el Parque del Este, donde la foto al frente fue tomada, es uno de los puntos de encuentro m\u00e1s comunes de protesta en Caracas y queda muy cerca del apartamento donde yo viv\u00eda. Es interesante comparar estas dos capitales donde la gente constantemente protesta en contra de injusticias y pol\u00edticos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

La diferencia aqu\u00ed radica en el hecho de que mientras en DC la mayor\u00eda de las protestas permanecen pacificas y seguras, la situaci\u00f3n es completamente opuesta en Venezuela. Yo he experimentado muchos de los conflictos y acontecimientos pol\u00edticos importantes de Venezuela y aunque aun participe en activismo pol\u00edtico en los Estados Unidos, no se compara a lo que viv\u00ed en Venezuela.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Claudia Berm\u00fadez<\/span><\/h3>\n

Claudia Berm\u00fadez (ella\/elle) naci\u00f3 y creci\u00f3 en Caracas, Venezuela. Emigr\u00f3 a Estados Unidos con sus padres a los 14 a\u00f1os y despu\u00e9s de 10 largos a\u00f1os, Claudia y su familia obtuvieron la ciudadan\u00eda estadounidense. Como inmigrante, Claudia ha experimentado momentos de estabilidad y de gran dificultad y encuentra consuelo en expresarlos a trav\u00e9s del arte.<\/span><\/p>\n

En la universidad, Claudia estudi\u00f3 psicolog\u00eda, estudios de g\u00e9nero y estudios de inmigraci\u00f3n, que influyen tanto en su vida como en su arte. Ideas como la aculturaci\u00f3n, la ansiedad, la expresi\u00f3n de g\u00e9nero y la sexualidad cobran protagonismo en su obra. Claudia cree que el arte es una forma poderosa de expresi\u00f3n, y retratar experiencias marginadas es una forma de recuperar poder y visibilidad, y de crear comunidad. Se sienten honradas de poder crear y compartir su arte para Here Nor There.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
